What a trend we have in Jesus

It's all about Lunch

Christ-mas

Lunch was great today! We started talking about Christmas music, but then that led to discussing sound setup. It’s SO easy for musicians to go technical. Today, we went very deeply, seriously technical. By the end of the discussion, we were talking Aviom vs. Hearback monitors and powered speakers vs. on-stage monitor mixing. Good stuff. Otis is going to organize a group get-together soon at one of our respective buildings, to check out technical stuff, and talk details. That’s always fun and it’s a great way to share ideas and resources.

Biggest thing I took away today, was that each of us felt that our city needs a serious reality check when it comes to Christmas. It’s a wonderful, beautiful season superficially and aesthetically; however, ALL of that will burn up one day. The true wonder of Christmas is that God became a baby human, knowing he would die, so that we could be with him eternally. We are saved.

Praise God.

2 weeks is a long vacation.

Now, it’s time for work. Work is just an extended vacation from vacation. Glad to be back at work.

December is a great month. There is no better time for believers to come together than at Christmas. It’s the one time of year that we all focus less on the small groups, Beth Moore studies, best new worship music and focus on the one thing that should unite us – Christ and his coming.

I’m looking forward to our next Lunch – put Dec. 10 on your calendar. We’ll be talking about Christmas.

I won’t be at lunch next week

I’ll be on vacation 11-15 through 11-22. It’s a long one, I know. It’s been a long time coming. :)

Enjoy lunch without me! Fill me in when I get back.

Oxelon

On occasion, I have difficulty getting avi files into my mac/CS4 for editing. Lately, I’ve been doing it a lot. Many cheap camcorders record to avi, and don’t allow you to capture the video from the video camera, but rather expect you to copy the files over from a hard drive of sorts. This is great if you’re doing it all on a pc. However, without installing a bunch of crud on your mac to convert the avi files (I would rather install crud on my pc), you need a quality way to convert avi to something mac understands, and cleanly.

Oxelon did it for free, and is easy to use if you have a basic understanding of video properties. Make sure you download the installer AND the plugins, and install in that order. Download Oxelon

Bar Tunes

Of course, all Churches with contemporary bands have sung Sweet Home Up In Heaven By Lynyrd Skynyrd at some point, followed immediately by Free Bird right? Well maybe not, but I’m sure Free Bird would be an easy parody – remember when Jesus let all the animals go at the temple?

We had a great Trend Lunch the other day. I don’t remember how we got on the subject, but this site came up: http://www.parodeities.org (which by the way took me forever to find, because ‘i’ comes before ‘e’ except after ‘c’ unless it’s ‘parodeity’ in which case google can’t find it).

We talked about a bunch of stuff – in fact, probably around 20 subjects came and went (such are worship leaders – we don’t consider ourselves ADD, just very creative) but the whole parodeity thing got me thinking –

How many of the hymns are actually bar tunes, as we have always heard? Surely someone somewhere has the data. Here are a few articles for your reading pleasure. They have to be true, because I found them with google.

http://www.av1611.org/question/cqluther.html

“The idea that Luther adapted his tune from a drinking song is probably from a misunderstanding of the tune in “bar form.” It is easy to see here that “bar” is a technical term, because it is precisely the same word in German.”

Check this out if the above isn’t thought-provoking enough:
